REGULAR MEETING

                                                              BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2017

7:30 P.M.

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

Board Members Present:  Mike Fischer, Laura Schnoor, Malia Nemecek, Lynn Schnoor, William French, Don Beck

 

Board Members Absent:   

 

Others Present:  Supt. Ginger Meyer, Principal Brad Stithem, Recording Secretary Sharon Meyer

 

President Mike Fischer called the regular meeting of School Board #62 to order on Monday, November 13, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.  A call of roll showed all members present.  5 guests

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Open Meetings Act:

The board meeting will be conducted in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.

  

Approval of the Consent Agenda:

Laura Schnoor moved to accept the consent Agenda which includes the approval of the agenda, the October 9, 2017 Minutes, Treasurers (attachment 1) and Financial (attachment 2) reports and the actual General Fund (attachment 3), expenses, and placed them on file.  Lynn Schnoor seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Visitor Comments: 

 

New Business:

Discussion was held regarding building and grounds matters.  TRANE presented information to the board members regarding the Facility Improvement for the elementary building.  Laura Schnoor made a motion to purchase 12 new lunchroom tables, Nemecek seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Discussion was held regarding transportation waiver.  French motioned to add the transportation waiver (attachment 4) to the student handbook effective immediately.  Beck seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-no (Nemecek).

 

Discussion was held regarding the golf coop with West Point.  Discussed that we would like to keep the coop with West Point for now but in the future if more students are interested, we may consider other options.  Beck made a motion to renew the golf coop with West Point for the 2018 and 2019 school years.  Fischer seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-no (Laura Schnoor).

 

French made a motion to rollover Principal Stithem’s contract to include the 2019-2020 school year.  Laura Schnoor seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Discussion was held regarding negotiations for the 2018-2019 school year.  Lynn Schnoor made a motion to accept the committee recommendations for the 2018-2019 school year negotiations (attachment 5).  Nemecek seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Discussion was held regarding the VSP document.  It was proposed that the discussion be tabled, put information together and bring to next board meeting.

 

Administrative Reports:

Principal Stithem reported on the following items:

  • The Academic Mentoring Program is in full swing.
  • SSCS Junior class attended the Dodge County – County Government Day in Fremont on November 8th.
  • Veteran’s Day Program was held on November 10th.  Thank you to all staff members who worked so hard to put together another outstanding Veteran’s Day Program.
  • Teachers are required to perform 2 unique technology activities throughout the year that enhances the learning process in the classroom.  A special thanks to Mrs. Schafer and Mr. Meyer for their support.

 

Superintendent Meyer reported on the following items:

  • Distributed the Superintendent evaluation tool to the board members.

Adjournment:

There being no further business, Laura Schnoor moved for adjournment at 9:59 p.m., Beck seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of District #62, Dodge County, will be Monday, December 11, 2017, at 6:30 p.m., at the Scribner –Snyder Attendance Center.  Agenda items are kept current in the superintendent’s office and may be inspected during regular business hours.
