REGULAR MEETING

                                                           BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

MONDAY, JANUARY 14, 2019

6:30 P.M.

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

Board Members Present:  Mike Fischer, Laura Schnoor, Malia Nemecek, Don Beck, Andrea Vacha, Cory Schlueter,

 

Board Members Absent:  

 

Others Present:  Supt. Ginger Meyer, Principal Brad Stithem, Recording Secretary Sharon Meyer

 

Superintendent Meyer called the regular meeting of School Board #62 to order on Monday, January 14, 2019, at 6:30 p.m.  A call of roll showed all members present.  6 guests present.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Oath of Office:

Oath of Office was recited by Cory Schlueter and Andrea Vacha.

 

Open Meetings Act:

The board meeting will be conducted in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.

 

Election of Officers:

Superintendent Meyer called for nominations for president, Schnoor nominated Fischer for president and moved that nominations cease.  Beck seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-abstain (Fisher)

 

President Fischer called for nominations for vice president, Nemecek nominated Schnoor for vice president and moved that nominations cease.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 5 yes, 1- abstain (Schnoor).

 

President Fischer called for nominations for secretary, Fischer nominated Nemecek for secretary and moved that nominations cease.  Schnoor seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-abstain (Nemecek).

 

Approval of the Consent Agenda:

Schnoor moved to accept the consent Agenda which includes the approval of the agenda, the December 10, 2018 Minutes, Treasurers (attachment 1) and Financial (attachment 2) reports and the actual General Fund (attachment 3), expenses, and placed them on file.  Beck seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

Administrative Reports:

Principal Stithem reported on the following items:

  • December’s staff and students of the month are N. Landsteiner (2nd), Seiko Medina (12th),

       Trish Bell (Title teacher) and Anthony Ruzicka (Sped teacher).

  • Drop and Add
  • Crisis Team set goal to get Building Signage for each building.
  • Welcome back to the start of Second Semester.

 

 

Superintendent Meyer reported on the following items:

  • Plat of Survey
  • Swanson Insurance coverage and premiums for 2019.
  • New regulations for NDE Rule 91 (Driver Qualifications and Operational Procedures).

 

Discussion was held regarding Board of Education committee assignments for 2019.

 

eSports Presentation by Mrs. Schafer and team members.

 

Discussion was held regarding building and grounds matters.

 

Schnoor made the motion to approve Mary Jacob for the Early Retirement Incentive Program per policy 408.06 (attachment 4) effective at the end of the 2018-2019 contracted school year.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Nemecek made a motion to approve the membership in the Nebraska School Boards Association.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Schnoor made a motion to approve the participation in the Title 1 Cooperative through ESU 2 for 2019-2020 school year.  Beck seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Executive Session:

Schnoor moved to go into closed session at 7:52 p.m. to discuss personnel.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.  President Fischer stated that a motion was made by Schnoor that the Board of Education go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel when necessary to prevent needless injury to the reputation of a person and is such person has not requested a public meeting; and for the protection of the public interest.

 

Schnoor moved the members come from closed session at 8:49 p.m., Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Schnoor made a motion to roll-over Superintendent Meyer’s contract to include 2020-2021 school year.  Fischer seconded and motion carried 4-yes, 2-no (Schlueter, Vacha).

 

Nemecek moved to go into executive session at 8:51 p.m. to discuss negotiations, Schnoor seconded and motion carried 6-yes.  President Fischer stated that a motion was made by Nemecek that the Board of Education go into executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel when necessary to prevent needless injury to the reputation of a person and is such person has not requested a public meeting; and for the protection of the public interest.

 

Nemecek moved the members come from executive session at 9:20 p.m., Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Nemecek motioned to approve a 2% raise for administration for the 2019-2020 school year, Schnoor seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Adjournment:

There being no further business, Schnoor moved for adjournment at 9:22 p.m., Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of District #62, Dodge County, will be Monday, February 11, 2019, at 6:30 p.m., at the Scribner –Snyder Attendance Center.  Agenda items are kept current in the superintendent’s office and may be inspected during regular business hours.
