                                                            BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62


7:30 P.M.




Board Members Present:  Mike Fischer, Laura Schnoor, Malia Nemecek, Don Beck, Cory Schlueter, Andrea Vacha


Board Members Absent:  


Others Present:  Supt. Ginger Meyer, Principal Brad Stithem, Recording Secretary Sharon Meyer


President Mike Fischer called the regular meeting of School Board #62 to order on Monday, October 14, 2019 at 7:30 p.m.  A call of roll showed all members present.   60 guests present.


The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.


Open Meetings Act:

The board meeting will be conducted in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.


Approval of the Consent Agenda:

Schnoor moved to accept the consent Agenda which includes the approval of the agenda, the October 14, 2019 Minutes, Treasurers (attachment 1) Financial (attachment 2) reports and the actual General Fund (attachment 3), expenses and placed them on file.  Nemecek seconded and motion carried 6-yes.


Visitor Comments: 

Carol Vacha, Rachael Lodl and Heather Peters all approached the board with their comments and concerns revolving around the reorganization of the district, the recall petition and prom.


New Business:


Administrative Reports:

Principal Stithem reported on the following items:

  • End of 1st Quarter ends October 18th.
  • Family Reading Night is scheduled for Thursday, October 24th from 6-7 p.m.
  • Professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Congratulations to Shawn Larson, Nia Meyer, Carol Toman and Kevin Wisnieski for being recognized as the students and staff of the month for September.


Superintendent Meyer reported on the following items:

  • FCCLA brought in a Poverty Simulation for the high school students.
  • 2018-2019 Audit was held on October 1.
  • NRCSA National Convention will be held on October 24-25.
  • Information was given to Board regarding the School Accountability Classification.
  • Missoula Children’s Theatre Production will present on Saturday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m.


Discussion was held regarding any building and grounds matters.  The last lease payment on the High School Building will be made in October.  The American Legion has agreed to share rent on the use of the old fire hall as a location to start a Life Skills program. 


Schnoor made a motion to approve the renewal of school insurance with EMC via Swanson Insurance and Scribner Insurance.  Schlueter second, motion carried 6-yes.


Decision was made to have all Board Members meet with interested school districts to gather information for potential reorganization.


Schnoor moved to continue to discuss consolidation with Logan View Public Schools.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-no (Beck).


Fischer motioned to continue talks with West Point Public School.  Beck seconded and motion was declined 4-no (Nemecek, Schnoor, Schlueter, Vacha) yes-2 (Beck, Fischer).


Fischer motioned to continue talks with North Bend Public School.  Beck seconded and motion was declined 4-no (Nemecek, Schnoor, Schlueter, Vacha) yes-2 (Beck, Fischer).


Vacha made a motion to renew the football agreement with Logan View for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years.  Nemecek seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-no (Fischer).


Executive Session:



There being no further business, Schnoor moved for adjournment at 8:19 p.m., Nemecek seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of District #62, Dodge County, will be Monday, November 11, 2019, at 7:30 p.m., at the Scribner –Snyder Attendance Center.  Agenda items are kept current in the superintendent’s office and may be inspected during regular business hours.
