REGULAR MEETING

                                                             BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2020   

6:30 P.M.

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

Board Members Present:  Mike Fischer, Laura Schnoor, Malia Nemecek, Don Beck, Cory Schlueter, Andrea Vacha

 

Board Members Absent:  

 

Others Present:  Supt. Ginger Meyer, Principal Brad Stithem, Recording Secretary Sharon Meyer

 

President Laura Schnoor called the regular meeting of School Board #62 to order on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.  A call of roll showed all members present.   11 guests present.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Open Meetings Act:

The board meeting will be conducted in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.

  

Approval of the Consent Agenda:

Vacha moved to accept the consent Agenda which includes the approval of the agenda, the January 13, 2020 Minutes, January 27 & February 4, 2020 Special Board Minutes, Treasurers (attachment 1) Financial (attachment 2) reports and the actual General Fund (attachment 3), expenses and placed them on file.  Fischer seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Visitor Comments: 

Wayne Beck, Dan Beerbohm and Dave Schnoor all approached the Board with their concerns regarding the possible merger.

 

New Business:

 

Administrative Reports:

Principal Stithem reported on the following items:

  • P/T Conferences will be held on Wednesday, February 12th from 3:30-7:30 p.m.
  • 2nd round of MAPS testing started on February 4 and end on February 19th.
  • Pre-K and Kindergarten round-up will be held on Wednesday, March 4th from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
  • Elementary student of the month – Nyome Harding, High School - Machara Jusino, Elementary staff – Arlene Alsmeyer, High School staff – Kirk Kellough and Grandparent of the month is Sharon Homes

 

Superintendent Meyer reported on the following items:

  • Attended the NASB Legislative Meeting

 

Discussion was held regarding buildings and grounds matters.  Schlueter made a motion to approve Supt. Meyer to begin collecting bids on the removal of the old High School Building.  Nemecek seconded and motion carried 6-yes.  Fischer amended the motion to table getting bids until they have spoken to TRANE about the project.   Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.  Superintendent Meyer will get in touch with TRANE.

 

Beck made a motion to approve the 2020-2021 school calendar with the correction of changing March 8 to a full day and March 9 to a 1:30 dismissal with Parent Teacher Conference.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Discussion was held regarding the revision of the superintendent contract for 2020-2021 school year. 

 

Discussion was held regarding P2T.

 

Fischer made a motion to approve the principal negotiations for the 2020-2021 school year as presented by the committee.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Schlueter made a motion to accept David Steven’s resignation with regret at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Nemecek seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Fischer made a motion to approve and authorize the sitting superintendent as the signing agent for E-Rate for the 2020-2021 school year.  Beck seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Schlueter made a motion to approve and authorize the sitting superintendent as the signing agent for all district, state and federal programs for the 2020-2021 school year.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Executive Session:

Discussion was held regarding potential reorganization with neighboring school districts.  Josh Schauer was in attendance.  It was moved by Nemecek to go into closed session at 7:33 p.m. to discuss the strategy session with respect to negotiations and legal strategies regarding potential merger and legal issues.  Fischer seconded and motion carried 6-yes

 

President Schnoor stated that a motion was made by Nemecek that the Board of Education go into executive session at 7:33 p.m. to discuss the strategy session with respect to negotiations and legal strategies regarding potential merger and legal issues.

 

Beck moved the members come from executive session at 9:20 p.m., Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Adjournment:

There being no further business, Vacha moved for adjournment at 9:21 p.m., Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of District #62, Dodge County, will be Monday, March 9, 2020, at 6:30 p.m., at the Scribner –Snyder Attendance Center.  Agenda items are kept current in the superintendent’s office and may be inspected during regular business hours.
