                                                                MONDAY, JULY 12, 2021 @ 7:30 P.M.

Open the Meeting

Call the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. Scribner-Snyder President, Laura Schnoor presiding.

 

Open Meetings Act

Notice of this meeting was properly published in a newspaper of general circulation by advance Public Notice with notice and advance agenda given to all members of the board prior to the meeting date.

NOTE:  The meeting was broadcast on Facebook live@sstrojans.org

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Roll Call

A call of roll showed 5 members present:  Don Beck, Cory Schlueter, Laura Schnoor,

Andrea Vacha and Matt Kruse.  1 absent – Mike Fischer

TRANE Update – Peitzmeier Report

Trane staff have been in the building looking through the system.  Demo started today.

 

Informational Reports

Board Members – Informed the Board of the NASB Area Membership Meeting which will be held on September 29th and also that the board will be serving watermelon Saturday, August 7th from 1-3 at the Dodge County Fair.

Principal Stithem reported on the following items:

  • Summer school is wrapping up this week.
  • All new curriculum has been received.
  • Chamber plans on sponsoring the Back to School BBQ again this year.

 

Superintendent Peitzmeier reported on the following items:

  • Legislative Issues:

-Health Standards Resolution

  • Curriculum:

-Preschool Update

-Title 1 School Wide has been approved for 21/22 school year

  • Facilities:

-Summer projects underway

-Cambium phone system upgrade

-Library carpet has been installed

  • Workshops/Meetings:

-Will be attending the PFI Meeting in Sidney Thursday, July 15th

-NASB Area Membership Meeting on 9/29

  • Miscellaneous:

- FFA students will be attending the FFA National Convention

- Closeup Trip was a success

 

            -GAGA Pit is ready for use

            -Cognia visit will take place February 20 – 23 for state accreditation

            -SPED Transition services now age 14 and IEPS for 14 yr olds within 90 days of    

             start of school

Updated the Board on Superintendent attendance/absences

 

Action Items

 

Approval of the Consent Agenda

Vacha moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented which includes the approval of the agenda, the June 14, 2021 Minutes, Treasurers Report (attachment 1), Financial Reports (attachment 2), the actual General Fund expenses (attachment 3) Special Building expenses (attachment 4) and placed them on file with the excused absence of Mike Fischer.  Beck seconded and motion carried 5-yes.

 

Policy Hearing on Policy 1005.03 “Parent Involvement in Education Practices”

Approval of Policy Adoption

Schlueter moved that policies 1005.03 “Parent Involvement in Education Practices”, 504.19 “Student Fees”; 504.20 “Bullying”; 1005.03 “Parent Involvement in Title 1 Program”; and 504.01 “Attendance Policy” be approved as presented.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1 absent (Fischer).

 

Discuss, Consider, and Take Necessary Action to Approve Board Policies

Vacha moved to approve as listed and written board policies 103.0 “Equal Educational Opportunity” (revised), 104.0 “Educational and Operational Planning” (revised), 203.01 “Board Organizational Meeting” (revised), 203.06 “Standing Committees” (revised), 205.02 “Policy Adoption” (revised), 402.01 “Equal Opportunity Employment” (revised), 404.06 “Harassment by Employees” (revised), 402.15 “Professional Boundaries” (revised), 501.0 “Objectives for Equal Educational Opportunities for Students” (revised), 501.01 “Educational Equity” (new), 501.02 “Anti-Discrimination, Anti-Harassment” (new), 504.18 “Harassment by Students” (revised), 603.01 “Curriculum Development” (revised), 604.01.1 “Academic Content Standards” (new), 607.1 “Classroom Environment” (revised), 607.11 “Bulletin Boards” (new), 612.18 “Special Education” (revised), 702.04 “Internal Controls” (new), 1005.02 “Community Relations” (revised) as presented.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Fischer).

 

Consider and Act on Hiring of Staff

Vacha moved that Bernadette Bowling, be hired as a Full-Time Substitute Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year.  Kruse seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Fischer).

 

Staff Resignation

Schlueter moved to accept the resignation, effective at the end of the school year of Bernadette Bowling (attachment 5).  Vacha seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absence (Fischer).

 

Discuss, Consider and Take Necessary Action on Ceiling Restoration in Commons Area

Peitzmeier explained the bid process and the Board discussed the bid.

Vacha moved to award the ceiling restoration project to EnergyCraft Systems in the amount of $15,164.00, and to authorize Mr. Peitzmeier to decide on the options of consideration.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Fischer)

 

Discuss, Consider and take Necessary Action in Regard to Renewing Membership in the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association (NRCSA) for the 21-22 School Year

Vacha moved to renew membership in the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association for the 2021-22 school year.  Beck seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Fischer).

Discussion

Decided to approve all annual memberships at the January meeting.

 

 

 

 

Approval of 2021-2022 Handbooks

Schlueter moved to approve the Parent/Student Handbook, Elementary Handbook, Faculty Handbook, and Support Staff Handbook for the 2021-2022 school year as presented.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Fischer).

 

Discussion items

  1. Return to Learn Plan – The plan needs to be uploaded in the website by July 15th.  We will post a community survey on the school website to get input on what the ESSER money should be used for and receive feedback on the Return to Learn Plan.  The Return to Learn Plan will be posted on the school website and will be updated periodically.
  2. Board Retreat will be held on Wednesday, September 1st at 6:00 p.m.
  3. Multicultural Report
  • The administration provided the annual status report to the Board of Education.
  • The Board consulted the periodic assessment of the Multicultural Education Program, 004.01FS

 

Adjournment

There being no further business on the agenda of this meeting, President Laura Schnoor adjourned the meeting at 8:41 p.m.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of District #62, Dodge County, will be Monday, August 9, 2021, at 7:30 p.m., in the Scribner–Snyder Band Room.  Agenda items are kept current in the superintendent’s office and may be inspected during regular business hours.
