                                                                           REGULAR MEETING

BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

MONDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2020

                                                                                     6:30 P.M.

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

Board Members Present:  Mike Fischer, Laura Schnoor, Malia Nemecek, Don Beck, Cory Schlueter, Andrea Vacha

 

Board Members Absent:  

 

Others Present:  Supt. Joe Peitzmeier, Principal Brad Stithem, Recording Secretary Sharon Meyer

 

President Laura Schnoor called the regular meeting of School Board #62 to order on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.  A call of roll showed all members present.   

 

Open Meetings Act:

Notice of this meeting was properly published in a newspaper of general circulation by advance Public Notice with notice and advance agenda given to all members of the board prior to the meeting date.

NOTE:  The meeting was broadcast Facebook live @sstrojans.org

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Informational Reports:

 

Board Members

            -Laura was not able to attend the NASB Delegate Assembly.

 

Principal Stithem reported on the following items:

  • December 22nd marks the end of 2nd quarter and 1st semester.  Christmas break is set to begin on December 22 with a 1:30 dismissal and go through January 5th.
  • FFA Food Drive was a success.  Thank you to Mrs. Ryun and the FFA students for sponsoring this project at Christmas time.
  • Professional developer Michael Feit from the ESU, trained our staff during in-service on how to defuse challenging situations with students.
  • The elementary and high school Christmas Concerts are being recorded and will be available for parents and patrons to view virtually by December 18th.  Congratulations to Riley Nemecek and Savanah Lundry for qualifying for EHC Honor Band.
  • Second round of Acadience testing has been completed.
  • Dual Credit Courses
  • Season Greetings and have a wonderful Christmas break.

 

Superintendent Peitzmeier reported on the following items:

  • Legislative Issues

-The legislature will convene January 6th.

-SPED Class Action Suit

  • Finance

-Audit

  • Curriculum

-Stage Lighting

-Easement/Sale of land

Action Items:

 

Approval of the Consent Agenda:

Fischer moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented which includes the approval of the agenda, the November 9, 2020 Minutes, Treasurers (attachment 1) Financial (attachment 2) reports and the actual General Fund expenses (attachment 3), and placed them on file.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Schlueter moved to approve the following resolution: “Whereas the Board of Education authorizes the superintendent to sign contracts with Trane and subcontracting partners for the amount not to exceed $250,000 for Building Demo Project as presented.”  Beck seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Schnoor moved to purchase a new mower from Hoge Hardware as presented minus the trade.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Nemecek moved to approve the negotiated agreement between the District and the SSEA for 2021-2022 as presented, with a base salary increase of $690, setting the base salary at $38,090.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Discussion was held on ceiling restoration in commons area.  It was decided to table this issue till summer.

 

Nemecek moved to continue the school insurance coverage with EMC through Swanson Insurance.  Fischer seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Schlueter moved to give the Superintendent the discretion to award COVID leave.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Fischer moved to take action to clear title on certain surrounding real estate by exchanging quitclaim deeds and other necessary documents for payment and authorizing the board president, superintendent or designee of either to sign deeds and documents.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

Executive Session:

Vacha moved to enter executive session at 8:14 p.m. for the purpose of strategy session with respect to negotiations and legal strategies regarding potential merger.    Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Nemecek moved to resume Regular Session at 9:20 p.m.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Regular Session:

 

Fischer moved that the Scribner Snyder Community Schools will continue to operate as Scribner-Snyder Community Schools and remain under our current District #62 status.  Beck seconded and motion carried 6-yes

 

Board Retreat will be held January 6th at 5:00 p.m.

 

Adjournment:

There being no further business on the agenda of this meeting, President Laura Schnoor adjourned the meeting at 9:23 p.m.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of District #62, Dodge County, will be Monday, January 11, 2021, at 6:30 p.m., in the Scribner–Snyder Band Room.  Agenda items are kept current in the superintendent’s office and may be inspected during regular business hours.
