REGULAR MEETING

                                                            BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

MONDAY, MAY 11, 2020

7:30 P.M.

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

Board Members Present:  Mike Fischer, Laura Schnoor, Malia Nemecek, Don Beck, Cory Schlueter, Andrea Vacha

 

Board Members Absent:  

 

Others Present:  Supt. Ginger Meyer, Principal Brad Stithem, Recording Secretary Sharon Meyer

 

 President Laura Schnoor called the regular meeting of School Board #62 to order on Monday, May 11, 2020 at 7:30 p.m.  A call of roll showed all members present.   Visitors on Zoom.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Open Meetings Act:

The board meeting will be conducted in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.

 

  

Approval of the Consent Agenda:

Vacha moved to accept the Consent Agenda which includes the approval of the agenda, the April 13, 2020 Minutes, Treasurers (attachment 1) Financial (attachment 2) reports and the actual General Fund (attachment 3), expenses and placed them on file.  Nemecek seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Visitor Comments: 

 

Administrative Reports:

Discussed Close-Up, Graduation, End of School Year, and the beginning of the 2020-21 school year.  Congratulations to Linda Schafer for receiving the Romberg Award.  Shout out to Great Plains for supplying 2 months free of internet to our students during the COVID 19 Virus Leave.

 

New Business:

Nemecek made a motion to continue the Volleyball and Softball Coop with Logan View for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Discussion was held regarding curriculum.

 

Congratulations to Scribner-Snyder FCCLA participants Elissa Dames, Jillian Dames, Hannah Ryun, and Jillian Adams for making it to Nationals.

 

Congratulations to our State Journalism participants:  Elissa Dames, Faith Riggle, Sam Stadt, Noah Banks, Laythen Streit, Nia Meyer, Jillian Dames, Kristal Svehla, and Matt Hull.  SSCS Trojan Staff got 5th in Yearbook Theme Development and SSCS Journalism placed Third in NSAA State Journalism Class C Championship.

 

Fischer made a motion to approve the contract for Julie Feldman as Elementary Teacher.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

 

 

Discussion was held regarding the technology proposals offered by Skywave.  Fischer made the motion to accept the bid provided by Skywave for the 2020-21 school year laptop purchase.  Beck seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Vacha made the motion to approve the purchase of 60 Chromebooks for the elementary students from Skywave.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Schlueter made a motion to approve Tim Wobken as SSCS Treasurer for the 2020-2021 school year.  Fischer seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Fischer made a motion to approve the school districts treasurer to borrow funds on behalf of the District if necessary.  Nemecek seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Discussion was held regarding potential reorganization.  The motion was made by Vacha and seconded by Schlueter to go into Executive session to discus strategies and reorganization of the school district.  During discussion an amended motion made by Fischer and seconded by Beck was made to discuss only the Logan View letter and our response.  Motion carried 6-yes.

 

Executive Session:

It was moved by Vacha to go into closed session at 8:52 p.m. to discuss the strategy session with respect to negotiations and legal strategies regarding potential merger and legal issues. Schlueter seconded and the motion carried 6-yes.

 

Nemecek moved the members come from executive session at 9:49 p.m., Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Vacha made a motion to have Josh Schauer draft a response to Logan View.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Adjournment:

There being no further business, Vacha moved for adjournment at 10:11 p.m., Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of District #62, Dodge County, will be Monday, June 8, 2020, at 7:30 p.m., at the Scribner –Snyder Attendance Center.  Agenda items are kept current in the superintendent’s office and may be inspected during regular business hours.
