BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

MONDAY FEBRUARY 20, 2023 @ 6:30 P.M. (Rescheduled)

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

Open the Meeting

Call the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Scribner-Snyder President, Laura Schnoor presiding.

 

Open Meetings Act

Notice of this meeting was properly published in a newspaper of general circulation by advance Public Notice with notice and advance agenda given to all members of the board prior to the meeting date.  Scribner-Snyder personnel Joe Peitzmeier, Sharon Meyer, Brad Stithem and Malia Nemecek were in attendance.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Roll Call

A call of roll showed all members present:  Janis Baker, Don Beck, Mike Fischer, Aaron Lange, Matt Kruse and Laura Schnoor.

 

Welcoming of Visitors

No Public Comments

 

Laura Enos (Language Arts) discussed with the Board the possibility of offering more 9-12 Language Arts and Performing Arts elective courses.  The board also discussed possible offering of Family Consumer Science

 

Informational Reports

Principal Stithem reported on the following items:

  • Parent Teacher Conferences – Thank you to Kevin and Daniel for setting up and tearing down the gym for conferences and also thanks to Becky and Amy for making the outstanding box lunches for the staff.  He also visited about the family attendance numbers.
  • On January 25th Curtis Orr (Vietnam war veteran) spoke to the 10th & 11th graders about his service in the Vietnam war. Thank you to Mr. Orr for sharing his stories and for his service to our country.

 

Superintendent Peitzmeier reported on the following items:

  • Legislative Issues:

-Funding – State Department of Education - Curriculum

  • Facilities:

-Shout Out to Dan and Kevin for snow cleanup

  • Workshops/Meetings:

- NRCSA Conference – March 23 & 24

-Anthony, Hanna, Malia and Joe attended a SPED Procedures Workshop

- ESU Superintendent Meeting and EOP Exercise – February 15

- NRCSA Legislative Forum – March 7

  • Miscellaneous:

-March 27 – 10:00 Late Start – EHC Quiz Bowl

 

  • Updated the Board on Superintendent attendance/absences

 

Malia Nemecek – AD/Data Student Services

  • Congratulations to the Girls Wrestling Team and their coaches.  Kristen placed 4th, Nattalie 5th, and Emily 6th at the state tournament.  Ashley wrestled well but needed one more win to secure a medal.
  • Hannah Ryun participated in State Dance.  The team earned 17th place out of 20 teams.
  • HS Track practice begins Monday, February 27
  • EHC Speech Meet at Pender - February 22
  • District Speech Meet at Wynot – March 6
  • Senior Sneak Trip – February 28 – March 2
  • FFA District CDE at NECC – February 27
  • FFA BBQ and Labor Auction – March 14
  • Musical – March 25 @ 7:00 p.m. and March 26 @ 1:00 p.m.
  • Winter benchmark testing is completed
  • Summer School

 

Action Items

 

Approval of the Consent Agenda

Fischer moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented. This includes the approval of the agenda, the January 11, 2023 Minutes, Treasurers Report (attachment 1), Financial Reports (attachment 2), General Fund expenses (attachment 3), and placed them on file.  Kruse seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Policy Review

Kruse moved to approve board policies:  Section 400, 407.01 – 415.10 “Personnel” as reviewed. Lange seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

Discuss, Consider and Take all Necessary Action to Approve Board Policies

Kruse moved to approve Board Policies:  410.02 “Certificated Employee Personal Illness Leave” and 415.02 “Support Staff Personnel Illness Leave” as revised.  Fischer seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

Discuss, Consider, and Take all Necessary Action to Approve the School Calendar for 2023-2024

Fischer moved to approve the school calendar for the 2023-2024 school year as presented (attachment 4).  Beck seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

Discuss, Consider, and Take all Necessary Action to Approve Pre School Recommendations for 2023-2024

Kruse moved to approve to offer an all-day Pre School Program 5 days a week in the 2023-2024 school year.  Baker seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

Adjournment

There being no further business on the agenda of this meeting, President Laura Schnoor adjourned the meeting at 8:20 p.m.
