REGULAR MEETING

                                                               BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

MONDAY, JANUARY 13, 2020

6:30 P.M.

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

Board Members Present:  Mike Fischer, Laura Schnoor, Malia Nemecek, Don Beck, Cory Schlueter, Andrea Vacha

 

Board Members Absent:  

 

Others Present:  Supt. Ginger Meyer, Principal Brad Stithem, Recording Secretary Sharon Meyer

Superintendent Ginger Meyer called the regular meeting of School Board #62 to order on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.  A call of roll showed all members present.   20 guests present.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Open Meetings Act:

The board meeting will be conducted in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.

 

Election of Officers:

Superintendent Meyer called for nominations for president, Schlueter nominated Schnoor for president and moved that nominations cease.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 4-yes, 1-no (Beck), 1-abstain (Schnoor).

 

President Schnoor called for nominations for vice president, Beck nominated Fischer for president and moved that nominations cease.  Nemecek seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-abstain (Fischer).

 

President Schnoor called for nominations for secretary, Schlueter nominated Nemecek for secretary.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-abstain (Nemecek).

  

Approval of the Consent Agenda:

Vacha moved to accept the consent Agenda which includes the approval of the agenda, with the omit of agenda #4, the December 9, 2019 Minutes, December 16 & 20, 2019 Special Board Minutes, Treasurers (attachment 1) Financial (attachment 2) reports and the actual General Fund (attachment 3), expenses and placed them on file.  Fischer seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Visitor Comments: 

Wayne Beck approached the board with his concerns.

 

New Business:

Discussion was held regarding Board of Education committee assignments for 2020.

 

NASB Representative Colby Coash presented to the board the options that are offered through NASB to help with the search for a new Superintendent.  Schnoor moved to go into closed session at 6:53 p.m. to discuss position of Superintendent, Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.  President Schnoor stated that a motion was made by Schnoor that the Board of Education go into closed session to discuss the Superintendent position for the protection of the public interest.

 

Fischer moved the members come from executive session at 7:15 p.m., Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

Fischer made a motion to contract with NASB to begin the process of Option 2 in the search of a new Superintendent.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Discussion was held regarding possible reorganization with neighboring school district.  Josh Schauer was present to answer any questions pertaining to the reorganization process.  Committee members reported back to the Board regarding their talks with Logan View Board Committees.  Lengthy conversation was held and the members each stated their opinion, that information was then summarized and a recommendation was made.  The next Board to Board meeting will be held January 27, 2020.

 

Discussion was held regarding P2T.  Superintendent Meyer was directed to put resolution in the local paper for 3 consecutive weeks and table until the February Board Meeting.

 

Fischer made a motion to approve the certified negotiations for the 2020-2021 school year per the recommendations of the Negotiation Committee.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Discussion was held regarding building and grounds matters.  Discussed vape sensors and taking down the old high school building.  Will revisit at a later date regarding these matters.

 

Vacha motioned to approve the membership in the Nebraska School Boards Association.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Schlueter motioned to approve the participation in the Title I Cooperative through the ESU 2.  Nemecek seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

Adjournment:

There being no further business, Nemecek moved for adjournment at 9:18 p.m., Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of District #62, Dodge County, will be Monday, February 10, 2020, at 6:30 p.m., at the Scribner –Snyder Attendance Center.  Agenda items are kept current in the superintendent’s office and may be inspected during regular business hours.
