BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

                                                              WEDNESDAY, MAY 11, 2022 @ 6:30 P.M.

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

Open the Meeting

Call the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Scribner-Snyder President, Laura Schnoor presiding.

 

Open Meetings Act

Notice of this meeting was properly published in a newspaper of general circulation by advance Public Notice with notice and advance agenda given to all members of the board prior to the meeting date.  Scribner-Snyder personnel Joe Peitzmeier, Brad Stithem, Sharon Meyer and Malia Nemecek were in attendance.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Roll Call

A call of roll showed 5 members present:  Don Beck, Mike Fischer, Matt Kruse, Laura Schnoor, and Andrea Vacha.  Cory Schlueter - absent

Classroom Presentation

This month’s classroom presentation was done by Laura Enos’s Jr Language Arts Class.  Hannah Bowling and DesiRae Svehla presented on Renovating the older High School Building.

 

DLR Facility Study Presentation

Darin Hanigan and Vanessa Schutte gave an update on the research they have done on the Facility Study and also generated some discussion on what the next steps will be.

 

Oscar Duran and Elizabeth Valla presented to the Board in regarding the 1923 High School Building Project.

 

Informational Reports

Board Members – Laura handed out an article regarding Community Engagement and also discussed the Golf Outing in Kearney on June 22 – 23 hosted by NASB.

 

Principal Stithem reported on the following items:

  • Class registration has been completed.
  • Four new courses are being offered next year.
  • The elementary teachers and staff will be reviewing our Acadience results during our final data retreat on May 19th.
  • Conducted the Intruder in the Building Lock Down Drill, Reverse Evacuation Drill and the second Bus Evacuation Drill.
  • In-lieu of class field trips we hired The Wildlife Encounter Organization to come and give our Pre/K – 6th grade students an awesome assembly.
  • On behave of the Board of Education and administration we’d like to thank all our teachers and staff members for their hard work and dedication they showed during the 2021-2022 school year.

 

Director - Malia Nemecek – AD/Data/Student Services

  • May 12th District Track Meet in Humphrey
  • May 13th is Honors/Athletic Night
  • Rylee Williams (AD Intern) was hired as the assistant VB coach for the LVSS program.
  • Kids Cub was a success.
  • Mark your calendars…November 12, 2022 will be a fundraiser for SS activities. We will have a Hypnotist for entertainment.

 

Superintendent Peitzmeier reported on the following items:

-Waiting for gym floor repair quotes.

-Walk at Lunch Day and Community Clean Up was held on April 27th.

-Classified Brunch on May 12th.

-Retirement Reception for Carol Toman and Marsha Silver on May 18th.

-Staff Cookout on May 19th.

Updated the Board on Superintendent attendance/absences

 

Action Items

 

Approval of the Consent Agenda

Fischer moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented and excuse Cory Schlueter from the meeting.  This includes the approval of the agenda, the April 13, 2022 Minutes, Treasurers Report (attachment 1), Financial Reports (attachment 2), the actual General Fund expenses (attachment 3), Special Building Fund expenses (attachment 4) and placed them on file.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 4-yes, 1-absent (Schlueter).  Kruse abstained on approval of check #38034.

 

Consider and Act on Hiring of Staff

Vacha moved that Bernadette Bowling be hired as a Full-Time Substitute Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year.  Kruse seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1 absent (Schlueter).

 

 

Staff Resignation

Vacha moved to accept the resignation, effective at the end of the school year, of Bernadette Bowling.  Beck seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Schlueter). 

 

Americanism & Civics Committee

Discuss, Consider and Take all Necessary Action Regarding Social Studies Curriculum in Regards to LB 399

Vacha moved to approve the Social Studies Curriculum and assure that the provisions of LB 399 are being met.  Fischer seconded, President Schnoor asked for public input and there was none and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Schlueter).

Adjournment

There being no further business on the agenda of this meeting, President Laura Schnoor adjourned the meeting at 8:37 p.m.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of District #62, Dodge County, will be Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 6:30 p.m., in the Scribner–Snyder Band Room.  Agenda items are kept current in the superintendent’s office and may be inspected during regular business hours.
