BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

                                                         WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2022 @ 6:30 P.M.

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

Open the Meeting

Call the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Scribner-Snyder President, Laura Schnoor presiding.

 

Open Meetings Act

Notice of this meeting was properly published in a newspaper of general circulation by advance Public Notice with notice and advance agenda given to all members of the board prior to the meeting date.  Scribner-Snyder personnel Joe Peitzmeier and Sharon Meyer were in attendance.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Roll Call

A call of roll showed 5 members present:  Don Beck, Mike Fischer, Laura Schnoor, Cory Schlueter and Andrea Vacha.  Absent – Matt Kruse

 

Welcoming of Visitors

Student Presentation

Andrea Hass, Junior journalism student, addressed the Board on the positive affect it would have on students if SSCS offered a Family Consumer Science Program.

 

Informational Reports

Board Members –President Schnoor reminded the board of the NASB State Conference in November.

 

Principal Stithem’s report: (not in attendance)

  • October 13th ends the first quarter of the school year.
  • Students from SSCS and LV enjoyed the Homecoming Dance on October 1st.  Thank you to Mrs. Schroetlin for organizing the Homecoming events and Mrs. Enos for taking pictures.
  • 1:30 dismissal on October 13th, and fall break (no school) from October 14-17.
  • Parent Teacher Conference were held on September 21st.
  • Congratulations goes out to Jillian and Kelby Dames for being invited to the “Annual Commissioner’s Recognition for Excellence in Nebraska Career and Technical Education” ceremony to be held in Lincoln on November 21st.
  • Thanks to the Staff and Students for a very successful start to the school year.

 

Director - Malia Nemecek (not in attendance) – AD/Data/Student Services

  • Esports Tournament was held at SS last week.
  • The Conference Softball Tournament was a success and thank you to everyone who helped out.
  • Jr. High fall sports are wrapping up.  Jr. High boys’ basketball will start practice on October 24th.
  • H.S. winter sports practice will start November 14th.
  • LV is hosting a Mental Health Growth Mind Set Seminar for LVSS athletic participants.
  • Pink Out Night - Monday, Oct 17th during Volleyball game
  • Don’t forget to purchase Fun Fest Tickets.
  • Data Update

 

Superintendent Peitzmeier reported on the following items:

  • Legislative Issues:

-Matt Blomstedt will step down as the Nebraska Commissioner of Education

  • Finance:

-Audit was September 26th

  • Curriculum:

-Staffing update

  • Facilities:

-Broken window

  • Workshops/Meetings:

- Laura and Joe registered for NASB State Conference

-Staff Development October 13th & 14th                                               

  • Miscellaneous:

-Negotiations meeting

-Will be out of the office October 31st – November 7th

 

Updated the Board on Superintendent attendance/absences

 

Action Items

 

Approval of the Consent Agenda

Schlueter moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented with excusing Matt Kruse from the meeting. This includes the approval of the agenda, the September14, 2022 Minutes, September 28, 2022 Special Meeting Minutes, Treasurers Report (attachment 1), Financial Reports (attachment 2), the actual General Fund expenses (attachment 3), Special Building Fund expenses (attachment 4) and placed them on file.  Fischer seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Matt Kruse).

 

Policy Review

Vacha moved to approve board policies:  100.01 “Terminology Used in This Manual, 101.0 “Legal Status of the District, 102.0 “Education Philosophy of the District”, 103.0 “Equal Educational Opportunity”, 104.0 “Educational and Operational Planning”, 104.01 “Annual Census”, 105.0 “Return to School Committee” as reviewed.  Beck seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Matt Kruse).

Adjournment

There being no further business on the agenda of this meeting, President Laura Schnoor adjourned the meeting at 7:17 p.m.
