BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

                                                             WEDNESDAY, JULY 13, 2022 @ 6:30 P.M.

Open the Meeting

Call the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Scribner-Snyder President, Laura Schnoor presiding.

 

Open Meetings Act

Notice of this meeting was properly published in a newspaper of general circulation by advance Public Notice with notice and advance agenda given to all members of the board prior to the meeting date.  Scribner-Snyder personnel Joe Peitzmeier, Brad Stithem, Sharon Meyer and Malia Nemecek were in attendance.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

A call of roll showed 5 members present:  Don Beck, Mike Fischer, Matt Kruse, Laura Schnoor, Cory Schlueter.  Andrea Vacha - absent

Informational Reports

Board Members – Discussed Community Engagement 

 

Principal Stithem reported on the following items:

  • Annual review of the Multi-Cultural Reports
  • Handbook approval
  • Class of 1955 Reunion - July 23rd
  • FFA and Megan Stock will do free face painting on July 23rd for Scribner Daze
  • Administrator Days – July 26-29
  • Order watermelon for the fair      

 

Director - Malia Nemecek – AD/Data/Student Services

  • FCCLA Nationals – SS had 5 students attend and all 5 placed in the top 10 of their division.  Jillian and Kelby Dames placed in the top 3 and earned 2nd place.  Congratulations to all students. 
  • Coaches will be attending the Coaches Clinic in Lincoln the last week in July.
  • NSAA is recommending that when temperatures are above 80 degrees that a wet bulb globe is used to determine the heat index.  NSAA will be suppling all schools with 1 wet bulb globe.
  • Cleaned the uniform/equipment room. 

 

Superintendent Peitzmeier reported on the following items:

-Received Accreditation from The Nebraska Department of Education

  • Facilities:

-Waiting for gym floor repair quotes

-Summer projects underway

-Cambium Phone System upgrade

Action Items

 

Approval of the Consent Agenda

Fischer moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented and excused Andrea Vacha from the meeting. This includes the approval of the agenda, the June 8, 2022 Minutes, Treasurers Report (attachment 1), Financial Reports (attachment 2), the actual General Fund expenses (attachment 3), Special Building Fund expenses (attachment 4) and placed them on file.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent.

Approval of Board Policies

Schlueter moved that policies 1005.03 “Parent Involvement in Education Practices”, 504.19 “Student Fees”, 504.20 “Bullying”, 1005.03 “Parent Involvement in the Title l Program”, 503.01 “Compulsory Attendance”, and 604.04 “Multicultural Education” be approved as presented.  Beck seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent.

 

Discuss, Consider, and Take Necessary Action to Approve Board Policies

Fischer moved to approve board policies 408.02 “Certificated Employee Early Contract Release” (revised), 508.17 “Seizure Safe Schools” (new), 702.03 “Budget Adoption Process” (revised), 902.02 “Construction Plans and Specifications” (revised), 902.04 “Bids and Awards for Construction Contracts” (revised).  After some discussion Schlueter seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent.

 

Discuss, Consider, and Take Necessary Action to Rescind Board Policy

After some discussion Kruse moved to rescind board policy 408.01 “Certificated Employee - Resignation”.  Beck seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent.

 

Consider and Act on Reauthorization of ESSERS lll Safe Return Plan

Schlueter moved to reauthorize the ESSERS lll Safe Return Plan as presented (attachment 5). After some discussion Kruse seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent.

 

Discuss, Consider, and Take Necessary Action to Set Food Service Prices for the 2022-2023 School Year

Schnoor moved that the school food service prices for the 2022-2023 school year be set as presented (attachment 6).  After some discussion Schlueter seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent.

 

Discuss, Consider, and Take Necessary Action in Regard to Renewing Membership in the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association (NRCSA) for the 2022 –2023 School Year

Schlueter moved to renew membership in the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association (NRCSA) for the 2022-2023 school year.  After some discussion Beck seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent.

 

Discuss, Consider, and Take Necessary Action to Approve the Cleaning Services Contract with L.A.M.B. Cleaning Services for 2022-2023 School Year

Fischer moved to approve the cleaning services contract with L.A.M.B. Cleaning Services for the 2022-2023 school year be set as presented (attachment 7).  Kruse seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent.

 

Approval of 2022-2023 Parent/Student Handbook, Elementary Handbook, Faculty Handbook and Support Staff handbook

Schlueter moved to approve the Parent/Student Handbook, Elementary Handbook, Faculty Handbook and Support Staff handbook for the 2022-2023 school year as presented.  After some discussion Kruse seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent.

  3. Board Policy Discussion regarding Juneteenth.

 

Adjournment

There being no further business on the agenda of this meeting, President Laura Schnoor adjourned the meeting at 7:51 p.m.
