REGULAR MEETING

                                                           BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

MONDAY, AUGUST 10, 2020

7:30 P.M.

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

Board Members Present:  Mike Fischer, Laura Schnoor, Malia Nemecek, Don Beck, Cory Schlueter, Andrea Vacha

 

Board Members Absent:  

 

Others Present:  Supt. Joe Peitzmeier, Principal Brad Stithem, Recording Secretary Sharon Meyer

 

 President Laura Schnoor called the regular meeting of School Board #62 to order on Monday, August 11, 2020 at 7:30 p.m.  A call of roll showed all members present.   6 Visitors

 

Open Meetings Act:

The board meeting will be conducted in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Visitor Comments: 

Dan Beerbohm shared with the board his concerns on the possible merger with Logan View.

 

Informational Reports:

Principal Stithem reported on the following items:

  • Computer Boot Camp will be held on August 13 at 6:30 p.m.
  • August 10-12 teacher work days.  School begins on August 13th
  • Successful start of the fall sports season
  • Welcome back to all the staff and students.  A big thanks to all the staff who worked hard this summer keeping the campus looking nice.

 

Superintendent Peitzmeier reported on the following items:

  • Legislative Issues
  • Finance
  • Curriculum:  Staffing update
  • Facilities:  Trane, Easement and Asbestos Removal
  • Workshop/Meetings:  Budget/Board Retreat set for September 2, 5:00 p.m.
  • Miscellaneous – Facebook account, NASB Region Director, Casual Fridays

 

Action Items:

 

Approval of the Consent Agenda:

Nemecek moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented which includes the approval of the agenda, the July 13, 2020 Minutes, Treasurers (attachment 1) Financial (attachment 2) reports and the actual General Fund expenses (attachment 3), the Adoption of Board Policy 105.0, “Return to School Committee”: 205.08 “Board Policy and Temporary Waivers of NDE Rules”; 502.02 “Non-Resident Student/Option Enrollment”; 504.11 “Weapons”; 504.16 “Searches, Seizures, and Arrests”; 508.15 “Concussion Awareness”; 607.02 “School Ceremonies & Observations”; 607.10 “Classroom Environment”; 801.04 “Bus Safety Program”; and 1002.0 “Annual Report” and placed them on file.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

 

Nemecek moved to set the date of the Budget Hearing for September 14, 2020 at 7:30 p.m.  Schlueter

seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Fischer moved to set the date of the Property Tax Levy Hearing for September 14, 2020 immediately following the Budget Hearing.  Beck seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

POLICY HEARING ON POLICY 1005.03 “PARENT INVOLVEMENT IN EDUCATION PRACTICES”

 

President Laura Schnoor called the Hearing to order at 8:07 p.m.  A call of roll showed all members present.   6 Visitors

 

Open Meetings Act:

The board meeting will be conducted in accordance with the Open Meetings Act

 

The purpose of the special hearing is to hear testimony from patrons offering support, opposition, criticism, suggestions or observations relating to the Scribner-Snyder Community Schools, Parental Involvement Policy #1005.03.

 

Adjournment:

At 8:08 p.m. President Laura Schnoor declared the Policy Hearing adjourned.

 

POLICY HEARING ON POLICY 504.19 “STUDENT FEES”

 

President Laura Schnoor called the Hearing to order at 8:10 p.m.  A call of roll showed all members present.   6 Visitors

 

Open Meeting Act:

The board meeting will be conducted in accordance with the Open Meeting Act

 

The purpose of the special hearing is to hear testimony from patrons offering support, opposition, criticism, suggestions or observations relating to the Scribner-Snyder Community Schools, Student Fees Policy # 504.19

 

There were no Community or Board comments.

 

Adjournment:

At 8:12 p.m. President Laura Schnoor declared the Policy Hearing adjourned.

 

POLICY HEARING ON 504.20 “BULLYING”

 

President Laura Schnoor called the Hearing to order at 8:12 p.m.  A call of roll showed all members present.   6 Visitors

 

Open Meetings Act:

The board meeting will be conducted in accordance with the Open Meetings Act

 

The purpose of the special hearing is to hear testimony from patrons offering support, opposition, criticism, suggestions or observations relating to the Scribner-Snyder Community Schools, Bullying Policy #504.20

 

There were no Community or Board comments.

At 8:13 p.m. President Laura Schnoor declared the Policy Hearing adjourned.

 

 

 

 

POLICY HEARING ON 1005.03 “PARENT INVOLVEMENT IN TITLE I PROGRAM

 

President Laura Schnoor called the Hearing to order at 8:13 p.m.  A call of roll showed all members present.   6 Visitors

 

Open Meeting Act:

The board meeting will be conducted in accordance with the Open Meeting Act

 

The purpose of the special hearing is to hear testimony from patrons offering support, opposition, criticism, suggestions or observations relating to the Scribner-Snyder Community Schools, Parent Involvement in Title 1 Program Policy #1005.03

 

There were no Community or Board comments.

 

Adjournment:

At 8:14 p.m. President Laura Schnoor declared the Policy Hearing adjourned.

 

Approval of Policy Adoption

Nemecek moved that policies 1005.03 “Parent Involvement in Education Practices”; 504.19 “Student Fees”; 504.20 “Bullying”; and 1005.03 “Parent Involvement in the Title I Program” be approved as presented.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Approval of Handbooks:

Schlueter moved to approve the Parent/Student Handbook, Elementary Handbook, Faculty Handbook, and Support Staff Handbook for the 2020-2021 school year as presented.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

First Reading of Board Policies:  103.0 “Equal Educational Opportunity” (revised), 104.0 “Educational and Operational Planning” (Revised), 203.06 “Standing Committees” (revised), 205.02 “Policy Adoption” (revised), 402.01 “Equal Opportunity Employment” (revised), 404.06 “Harassment by Employees” (revised), 501.0 “Objectives for Equal Educational Opportunities for Students” (revised), 501.01 “Educational Equity” (new), 504.18 Harassment by Students” (revised), 1005.02 “Community Relations” (revised).

There being no further business on the agenda of this meeting, President Laura Schnoor adjourned the meeting at 9:08 p.m.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of District #62, Dodge County, will be Monday, September 14, 2020, at 7:30 p.m., in the Scribner–Snyder Band Room.  Agenda items are kept current in the superintendent’s office and may be inspected during regular business hours.
