BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

                                                                 MONDAY, MARCH 8, 2021 @ 6:30 P.M.

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

Open the Meeting

Call the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Scribner-Snyder President, Laura Schnoor presiding.

 

Open Meetings Act

Notice of this meeting was properly published in a newspaper of general circulation by advance Public Notice with notice and advance agenda given to all members of the board prior to the meeting date.

NOTE:  The meeting was broadcast Facebook live @sstrojans.org

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Roll Call

A call of roll showed all members present:  Don Beck, Mike Fischer, Malia Nemecek, Cory Schlueter, Laura Schnoor and Andrea Vacha

 

Welcoming of Visitors

President Schnoor welcomed the visitors. (5 visitors)

Elizabeth Vala, Scribner Economic Development Director, addressed the board regarding the old high school project.

 

Informational Reports

Board Members – nothing reported

 

Principal Stithem reported on the following items:

  • Parent Teacher Conference
  • Science and Social Studies curriculum adoption
  • Pre-School/Kindergarten Round-Up will be held March 23rd from 5:30-7:15 p.m.
  • SSCS Musical will be performed for the public on March 27th and March 28th.
  • NSCAP Spring Assessments
  • SSCS is hosting the EHC Honor Choir on March 15th at the Nielsen Center in West Point.

 

Superintendent Peitzmeier reported on the following items:

-Early Childhood Special Education Teacher through ESU2

-Read Letters of resignation from Susie Dostal and Sally O’Neill-Cole

 

  • Updated the Board on Superintendent attendance/absences

 

Action Items:

 

Approval of the Consent Agenda:

Nemecek moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented which includes the approval of the agenda, the February 9, 2021 Minutes, Treasurers (attachment 1) Financial (attachment 2) reports and the actual General Fund expenses (attachment 3), and placed them on file.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Schlueter moved to approve the Co-Op Agreement in winter sports for 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 with Logan View Public Schools.  Vacha seconded and the motion carried 6-yes.

 

Mr. Peitzmeier reported on the qualifications of the applicants.

 

Beck moved that Casey Gustafson be hired as a 5th Grade Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Schlueter moved that Sarah Lallman be hired as a 6th Grade Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year.  Fischer seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Fischer moved that Leigh Schnoor be hired as a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year.  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes

 

Vacha moved that Laura Enos be hired as a 7-12 Language Arts Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year.  Beck seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Vacha moved that Malia Nemecek be hired as Director of Activities, Data and Services for the 2021-2022 school year.  Fischer seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1 abstain (Malia Nemecek).

 

Fischer moved to approve the senior trip for the 2021-2022 school year as presented (attachment 4).  Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Nemecek moved to approve the school calendar for the 2021-2022 school year as presented (attachment 5).  Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Vacha moved to accept the resignation of Board Member Malia Nemecek from the Board of Education effective at the end of this meeting, this 8th day of March 2021.  Fischer seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-abstain (Malia Nemecek).

 

Discussion Items:

COVID-19 Discussion – Staff vaccinating are scheduled for March 19 from 1:30 – 2:30.

This will prompt a 1:30 dismissal.

Building Demolition Discussion

Board member replacement – A board committee will begin the process of finding a replacement.  President Schnoor asked for volunteers.  The Adhoc Board Member Search Committee will be Mike Fischer, Andrea Vacha and Don Beck.

 

Executive Session:

Schlueter moved to enter executive session at 7:45 p.m. for the purpose of potential future litigation.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Nemecek moved to resume Regular Session at 8:18 p.m.  Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

There being no further business on the agenda of this meeting, President Laura Schnoor adjourned the meeting at 8:20 p.m.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of District #62, Dodge County, will be Monday, April 12, 2021, at 7:30 p.m., in the Scribner–Snyder Band Room.  Agenda items are kept current in the superintendent’s office and may be inspected during regular business hours.
