BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 11, 2023 @ 6:30 P.M.

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

Open the Meeting

Call the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Superintendent Peitzmeier presiding.

 

Open Meetings Act

Notice of this meeting was properly published in a newspaper of general circulation by advance Public Notice with notice and advance agenda given to all members of the board prior to the meeting date.  Scribner-Snyder personnel Joe Peitzmeier, Sharon Meyer, Brad Stithem and Malia Nemecek were in attendance.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Oath of Office was recited by New Board Members – Janis Baker and Aaron Lange

 

Roll Call

A call of roll showed all members present:  Janis Baker, Don Beck, Mike Fischer, Aaron Lange, Matt Kruse and Laura Schnoor.

 

Election of President

Superintendent Peitzmeier called for nominations for president.  Fischer nominated Schnoor for president and Lange nominated Fischer.  Fischer declined the nomination for president.  Fischer made a motion that nominations cease and a unanimous ballot be cast for Laura Schnoor.  Kruse seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1 abstain (Schnoor).

Laura Schnoor was elected President of the Board of Education for 2023 on 1 ballot, receiving 5 votes, a majority of those voting.

 

President Schnoor now presiding.

 

Election of Vice President

President Schnoor called for nominations for vice-president.  Beck nominated Fischer for vice-president.  Lange made a motion that nominations cease and a unanimous ballot be cast for Mike Fischer.  Schnoor seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1 abstain (Fischer).

Mike Fischer was elected Vice-President of the Board of Education for 2023 on 1 ballot, receiving 5 votes, a majority of those voting.

 

Election of Secretary

President Schnoor called for nominations for secretary.  Lange nominated Kruse for vice-president.  Fischer made a motion that nominations cease and a unanimous ballot be cast for Matt Kruse.  Beck seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1 abstain (Kruse). 

Matt Kruse was elected Secretary of the Board of Education for 2023 on 1 ballot, receiving 5 votes, a majority of those voting.

 

Approval of Treasurer

Kruse moved to approve Tim Wobken as the SSCS Treasurer for 2023.  Lange seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Welcoming of Visitors

Informational Reports

Board Members –President Schnoor mentioned the Legislative Conference, Budget workshop and NRCSA Conference coming up in the next few months.

 

Principal Stithem reported on the following items:

  • Drop and add classes
  • K-12 Math Curriculum Review
  • Hired Kanicee Gilmore-Bears as a Para-Educator for Sped Department
  • Emergency Operation Plan
  • Start of second semester

 

Malia Nemecek – AD/Data Student Services

  • Winter Participation Report
  • HS Girls Wrestling
  • HS Boys Wrestling
  • Jr. High Wrestling
  • Speech
  • Musical – This year the presentation will be Sister Act on March 25th and 26th.
  • East Husker Conference Band is at Twin River on February 6th.  Congratulations to Zoey Gathman, Kadyn Wheelock, Nattlie Hull, Rylee Nemecek and Garrett Hunke for being selected to participate in Conference Band.

Superintendent Peitzmeier reported on the following items:

  • Finance:

-NDE Commissioner farewell message on December 21st.

-Office of Civil Rights Administrative Findings

  • Workshops/Meetings:

- Laura, Aaron, Janis and Joe attended the New Board Member Workshop

-NRCSA Conference – March 23-24

-January 20th Joe will be participating in the Midland Mock Interviews

  • Miscellaneous:

-Office of Civil Rights CTE Civil Rights Review

-Elevate

 

  • Updated the Board on Superintendent attendance/absences

 

Action Items

 

Approval of the Consent Agenda

Kruse moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented. This includes the approval of the agenda, the December 14, 2022 Minutes, Treasurers Report (attachment 1), Financial Reports (attachment 2), General Fund expenses (attachment 3), Building Fund expenses (attachment 4), and placed them on file.  Fischer seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Selection of Bank Depository for District Funds

Kruse moved that Scribner Bank be designated as the depository for all School District #62 checking accounts for 2023.  Lange seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Set Regular Board Meeting Dates and Time

Fischer moved that regular meetings of the Scribner-Snyder Board of Education be held on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm.  Kruse seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

 

Board Authorization for Superintendent Actions

Fischer moved that the Board of Education authorizes and grants the Superintendent or his designee authority to represent the District in all matters relating to local, state and federal programs and funds, such as but not limited to Title Programs, ESU #2 Co-op purchasing of supplies, E-Rate, etc.  Beck seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

Designate the District Official Newspaper for Publication

Kruse moved that the Rustler Sentinel be designated as the official newspaper for the SSCS School District.  Lange seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Designate the District’s Legal Counsel

Fischer moved to designate the attorneys of Perry Law Firm as the district legal counsel.  The District reserves the right to use the legal services of Legal Counsel for the Nebraska Association of School Boards, as may be needed.  Kruse seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

Consider and Take Necessary Action Regarding Membership in the NSBA.

Lange moved to approve membership in the Nebraska School Boards Association.  Beck seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

Consider and Take Necessary Action Regarding Reauthorization of ESSER III Safe Return Plan as Presented.

Kruse moved to approve the reauthorization of ESSER III safe return plan as presented.  Lange seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

Policy Review

Fisher moved to approve board policies:  Section 400, 401.1-406.5 “Personnel” as reviewed.  Lange seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

Discuss, Consider and Take Necessary Action to Approve Board Policy

Kruse moved to approve Board Policy: 403.04 “Gifts to Employees” as revised.  Fischer seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

Consider and Act on Hiring of Staff

Kruse moved that Samantha Cash be hired as a K-12 Special Education Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year.  Beck seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

Adjournment

There being no further business on the agenda of this meeting, President Laura Schnoor adjourned the meeting at 8:25 p.m.
